Hourly to Salary: Convert Your Wage to Annual Pay With a Full Chart

One multiplication turns an hourly wage into the annual salary it really represents. The catch: most people use the wrong hours.

Annual salary equals hourly wage times hours per week times 52 weeks. At a standard 40-hour week the multiplier is 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year and $30 an hour is $62,400. Part-time schedules annualize with the same formula using your actual weekly hours.

The hourly to salary formula

Annual salary = hourly wage x hours per week x 52 weeks

For the standard full-time schedule this collapses to: annual salary = hourly wage x 2,080. That single multiplier does almost all the practical work. Read how many work hours are in a year if your schedule is not the standard 40 hours, because the multiplier is the part people get wrong.

Hourly to salary chart ($15 to $60 an hour)

All figures below use the standard 2,080-hour full-time year:

$15 an hour = $31,200 a year. 15 x 2,080. Roughly full-time minimum-wage-plus territory in many states.
$20 an hour = $41,600 a year. 20 x 2,080. A common skilled-trade and warehouse benchmark.
$25 an hour = $52,000 a year. 25 x 2,080. The classic middle benchmark, exactly $1,000 a week.
$30 an hour = $62,400 a year. 30 x 2,080. Solid professional and experienced-trade pay.
$35 an hour = $72,800 a year. 35 x 2,080.
$40 an hour = $83,200 a year. 40 x 2,080. Six figures is within reach with modest overtime.
$50 an hour = $104,000 a year. 50 x 2,080. The six-figure hourly milestone.
$60 an hour = $124,800 a year. 60 x 2,080. Senior professional and specialist contracting rates.

A quick mental shortcut: at 40 hours a week, every $1 an hour is $2,080 a year. A $2-an-hour raise is a $4,160 annual raise. Keep that ratio in your pocket for offer negotiations.

Annualizing part-time pay the right way

Part-time annualization uses the same formula with your actual weekly hours. Do not halve a full-time salary figure unless your schedule is exactly half of 40 hours, because most part-time schedules are not clean halves:

$20 an hour at 20 hours a week. 20 x 20 x 52 = $20,800 a year. Exactly half of the $41,600 full-time figure, as expected for a true half-time schedule.

$25 an hour at 30 hours a week. 25 x 30 x 52 = $39,000 a year. Not half of $52,000, it is three quarters. This is the case the halving shortcut gets wrong.

$22 an hour at 24 hours a week. 22 x 24 x 52 = $27,456 a year. Three 8-hour shifts. The formula handles odd schedules without any special casing.

Two cautions for part-timers. First, if your hours vary week to week, use your average weekly hours, and be honest about it; wishful 30s that are really 24s inflate the annual figure by 25%. Second, benefits: salaried full-time roles often include health insurance and paid leave worth thousands, which hourly part-time pay does not. Two offers can convert to the same annual number and still be worth very different amounts.

Do not forget overtime

If you regularly work paid overtime, the straight 2,080 multiplication understates your pay, because overtime hours earn 1.5x. A $25-an-hour worker doing 5 overtime hours a week: 40 x 25 x 52 = $52,000 base, plus 5 x 25 x 1.5 x 52 = $9,750 in overtime, for $61,750 a year. That is almost $10,000 the simple conversion misses. Hourly to salary questions

How do I convert my hourly wage to a salary?

Multiply your hourly wage by your hours per week, then by 52 weeks. The formula is: annual salary = hourly wage x hours per week x 52. At 40 hours a week, $25 an hour equals $52,000 a year.

How do you annualize a part-time hourly wage?

Use the same formula with your actual hours: annual pay = hourly wage x part-time hours per week x 52. For example, $20 an hour at 20 hours a week is $20,800 a year. Do not halve a full-time salary figure unless the schedule is exactly half time.

What is $25 an hour annually?

$52,000 a year at a standard 40-hour week: $25 x 2,080 hours. At 37.5 hours a week it is $48,750, and at 30 hours a week it is $39,000.

How many hours do I multiply by to get my salary?

Multiply your hourly wage by 2,080 for a standard full-time year (40 hours x 52 weeks). For other schedules, multiply weekly hours by weeks worked: 37.5-hour weeks give 1,950, and 30-hour weeks give 1,560.

Should overtime count in my hourly-to-salary conversion?

If you regularly work paid overtime, yes, and it matters: overtime pays 1.5x, so it raises the annual total fast. A $25-an-hour worker doing 5 overtime hours a week earns about $61,750 a year, not $52,000.
